Yep. No real animals. Not. A. Single. One.

Seems like they disappeared over time.

Mostly because the animators finally had more options because of all of the new Pokemon. It’s not so much evolution as it is choice, ya know?

The Pokemon games and the anime are kind of a different continuity.  The games even use Pokemon when they talk about types of food more recently. Brussel-Bellsprouts… mmmmm.  Since the games came fist, I consider those to be the ultimate canon.  I think it’s also notable that all of the real animals we see are generally dead or part of the background.  It would have been cool to see somebody’s pet or something, but everybody has Pokemon.  Real animals are like props on the rare occasions they’re actually around.  Something for the animators to put in.  I’m not sure if I’d count them or not.

Certainly a possibility. But that also reli-are we really considering the ramifications of a meme? xD

You know, I was wondering the same thing… xD
Can’t trust these meme things. 

Or the animal names could just be the names of their species just like in our world. There isn’t one type of bird. Bird is the general name of the species but there’s different types just like in Pokemon. 

Borrowing implies the eventual intention to return the thing that was taken. What makes you think I would ever give you back?
